I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with the aim of helping adults and children to gain a more coherent sense of self. Indications of improvement may be seen as a significant reduction or elimination of the presenting symptoms over time. I believe that counselling should have a start and an end; that improvement and healing take place, and that the therapy should not go on for ever.
My private practice in Surrey provides a safe space for individuals, couples and young people to explore and work through their issues and difficulties.
I have worked as a therapist at key institutions such as The Priory Group, Woking Hospice, NHS and several prominent addiction agencies. I am also an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have trained at the leading treatment centre Onsite Workshops in Nashville, USA. I have a Masters and B.A (Hons) in psychotherapy and I am currently underway with a doctorate. I am EMDR trained and one of the few therapist in the UK whom has specialist skills as a child therapist
MY WORK WITH ADULTS
In addition to specialising in addiction, I am well versed in how addiction can affect family members, with a full awareness of 12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Codependents Anonymous. I also work with clients experiencing difficulties such as bereavement, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem and when people are simply feeling lost and do not know where to turn.
Being an integrative counsellor means that I focus on the client’s relationships in their life, whilst occasionally drawing on therapeutic approaches such as attachment theory, psychodynamic, Gestalt, CBT, and art therapy techniques. It can also be useful for clients to use objects to describe people or situations which are difficult to articulate.
